A couple of years ago I bought this Vanda bag baby on sale at a local big box hardware store. It was a little dry and some of the leaves were a little worse for wear, but it seems like a good plant to try my Vanda growing skills. It spends summers on the front porch and winters inside. I keep checking it for a spike and I finally spotted one this weekend. Growing orchids has taught me patience.

Oh the tag says it's V. Kultana Gold-udomchai x Ascda. Golden Gulf-Yellow. Oh and that's a gray cat ear on the right. She had to check it out too.

Ahh. The cat checking out it's next play toy. Or prey. heheheh. Nice growing. I used to grow vandas but moved around too much. They are wonderful flowers. I hope to see it when it flowers.

Looks like a healthy plant and an expert grower!

You know how sometimes an image can give a bit of déjà vu? Looking at your photo reminded me of one of the very first orchid houses I ever was in. It was a wood framed structure with corrugated poly-carbon roofing, attached to the grower's house. The person had probably been collecting orchids for thirty years, and he had lots of Vandas. When we walked in, we had to part the Vanda roots like a curtain, and there was Vanilla planifolia running all over everything!

The vanda is usually hanging out of cat reach. This is the first time she has had a chance to get close to it. Her favorite is my Maxillaria (sigh). Those long strappy leaves are just too tempting to chew on.

I had almost given up on it ever producing a spike.
