So I broke down and purchased s. wittigiana. I cannot wait for the first bloom. Such a cute well established orchid on bark. I am just worried now how often I need to water it! It is mounted on a piece of cork. It may or may not have something behind the root mass, but I can't tell. It appears to have a wonderful assortment of roots knocking profusely on wood. I am growing it in an air conditioned room on a southeast facing window. 72 or so degrees. Would once a day be too much for the baby or every other day? Idk... I'm all new to sophrontis so I need your guidance! Thanks everyone. I'm so excited to grow this that I'm tempted to make a thread and update it once a week with the advance of the orchid.

Right now, watering everyday or every other day is fine. Reduce watering during the cooler months.

Sophronitis spp. grow sloooww.

An update every 2 - 3 months is far more meaningful than weekly updates.

I don't know this orchid, but I water my mounts every day. However as you see that the roots are perhaps not drying in 24 hours as the weather gets cooler I switch to every other day.

Anything mounted dries out fast.
You want to water daily.

Even in the greenhouse, mounted orchids get sprinkled over daily with everything else.

With much lower humidity in regular household, you can only imagine how thirsty plants can get.
