Just something to think about. Lots of phals grow in Borneo, Sumatra, Vietnam, Laos, Northern Australia, ect. Very hot (90*f) with 80% humidity. Just something to think about.

I just remembered I have a sensor out there, right above the air conditioner, that tells me temperature and humidity. It is connected to a weather meter thing in my apartment. All I have to do is change the batteries and it will be up and running again :-) That could be helpful.

The temperatures are warm in their natural environment, but there isn't a constant blowing of hot air either.

There is air, but it's more like occasional breezes. Sometimes the air sits.

You know, I dont remember how it is on top of that air conditioning unit, exactly. I had a an inch plant/wandering jew growing on there last year. The only leaf that dried out was the one that hung directly into the path of the blowing air.

Truth be told I have put plants on top of there every year since Ive been here (3 years? 4?) and I cannot recall a problem with them, besides where they hung down directly into the path of the air output. So that's something, I think.

I don't know what it's like where you propose to put the Phal, but all I can say is, do not put the plant directly in front of the blowing air. The surrounding area is fine, but not directly in the line of fire, so to speak.

An occasional light gust of warm air, or slight, occasional breezes of warm air is ok.

I will for sure not put it in the line of fire. I read max temp for phals is 95. Is everyone here in general agreement on that?

I was born in Indonesia and have been back there once in my childhood. Let's just say 95 F is a nice day in the lowland cities, it can reach 110 F easily during the days. But again, this is the high for lowland cities.

95 F is actually what it would be like in the cover of trees in mid-elevation forests.

My Phals (and Cattleya, and others, FWIW) survived a heat wave 2 summers ago, up to 109 F with no ill effects, but it only lasted a few days. We get 95 F+ all the time in the summer, occasional 100 F+, no problems.
