Most of my dendrobium nopporn Starbright spikes are starting to form roots. Is this normal. I only noticed it in this hybrid. Not that I am complaining I wish all would be like that. Right now i have 4 varieties with fatter spikes and growing roots.
It looks like this Dendrobium starts each spike as a keiki. They do look more slender, than what you see in true keikis though.
If roots continue to grow, you can try to remove some, when roots are an inch (2-3 cm) long and place in a small pot with some spaghnum (or fine seedling mix). If they grow a new hulb from the base you are in business.
If they do not grow, you simply have a plant that sets some slightly odd spikes with roots.
My kingianum does this all the time too. Most spikes on it will turn into keikis on that given half a chance. It's not quite the same as a keiki spiking, far more like a spike that then fattens at the base slightly and then starts growing roots.
