I returned from the holidays to find a pleasant surprise:
my Haraella odorata had initiated a spike!
now...i'm not suppose to get the spike wet am I?
i'm used to watering the mount by soaking it upside down. if i now switch to misting, how careful should i be?
Mistking
Looking for a misting system? Look no further. Automated misting systems from MistKing are used by multitude of plant enthusiasts and are perfect for Orchids. Systems feature run dry pumps, ZipDrip valve, adjustable black nozzles, per second control! Automatically mist one growing shelf or a greenhouse full of Orchids.
I either spray mine from a hand sprayer or totally submerge them, spikes and all. Mine are constantly in spike/blossom and I see no adverse effects. I have heard that wetting the blossoms will get rid of the fragrance, but mine never have exhibited any fragrance I can detect. I know it's not my nose because the faint fragrance of Cischweinfia sheehanae is very obvious to me.
Mine has been in flower for sometime now, it seems similar to Psychopsis in that it keeps putting out flower after flower. It has grown 2 spikes within a year, the first spike putting out a few more flowers after I thought it had finished.
It's a small compact plant so unless you are very careful, you can't help getting spikes or flowers wet, I do this and they have come to no harm. Mine are grown warm and low light.
