Your husband is clearly wrong. Enlighten him gently. Encourage him to celebrate an obsession of his own. And, when you run out of surfaces to sit them on....move onto hanging them! Ceiling hooks placed strategically around yr windows. Works perfectly for those plants needing modest footcandles, i.e. Phals.
