Eww - hitchhikers in my new orchid

Brought home my new little den - little green apples. i didn't unpot it right away to check the roots. got home a couple weeks later and saw something move in the pot. - yikes!

Unpotted it today and figured out i had centipedes hiding in the pot. I read up and saw they aren't harmful, but NOPE, not staying in the house.


Okay next question - which way do these grow? are the small canes the new ones or are the big canes the new ones? after unpotting I found some small canes hiding under the potting material. the biggest cane is the one flowering.

The smallest canes are old back bulbs from when it was a baby. If they look like shoots of grass or like a lilly, they are new shoots that should get taller than the tallest of present bulbs.

As for your bugs, yes that notifies you that the potting mix is decomposing.
