i pour mine off onto some orchids growing on trees outside.. and i use tap water, but tap water here doesn't have the same chemicals you get in the US and the UK.

My Way,
I have a 70-foot well that I water from with an open hose running lots of water. I water each plant for a few seconds and move to the next.
A lot of the year (like now) it rains, boy does it rain so I don't have to water.
I also have a 20 foot manual well in case the electric is off.
I have to watch for a day when it is not going to rain in the morning so I can get a little fertilizer on the this time of year.
