I am becoming an addict . I want another orchid but I am running out of room inside. I would like an easy orchid that will do well in a hanging basket outside. I live in Florida, zone 9. It would be on my east facing front porch. Thanks!
I adore the Schomburgkia, and/ or Myrmecophilia. The problem is that only someone from Florida, or state with those conditions could pull it off without a green house. These can be huge plants with seven foot long spikes of the twistiest, weird flowers. Last light I was looking at a starter plant fron CLAN orchids and it would have weighed in at 8 pounds bare root. Look at CLANs on line store. Some are smaller, of course, but like Catleyas, when you say small what do you really mean?
My first choice for hanging outside in Florida would be a cattleya hybrid. A nice big frilly red/yellow one with great fragrance. Just sayin........(hey Tucker!!! Chime in here!!!)

I have a yellow and red cattleya inside that is doing pretty well. Not fragrant, but I love it.
