Ice... On the roots of a tropical plant that is never exposed to ice.

Not such a good idea IMO. I don't know that it's harmful, but it's not hard to water a Phal correctly, just treat it like an African Violet and don't get the leaves wet. If you do, wipe the water away immediately with a paper towel and most especially keep water out of the stem (the braided looking area where the leaves meet.)

This looks like a Phal Fuller's sunset hybrid. Nice choice! I have one too. I love the flame colored lip on these. So interesting.

I agree. I would not water with ice. There is no reason to cause your plant undue stress. It is best to use room temperature water. To stress a plant harms their immune system and leaves them vulnerable to disease and insects.

I would water the heck out of this plant. Just drown it. Kill it off and get it over with. I swear that if you do not kill this plant off you will become addicted to orchids just like the rest of us addicts. Then all you will think about is, "where can I get some more?" Just a warning.

LOL!!

I gotta say, my first orchid was a Just Add Ice Phal that my daughter got me for my birthday last year. (I'm totally a beginner too.) That one orchid grew to about 30 orchids over the following year.
