Default Dendrobiums fall and go boom Part 2

Hello all,
This is continued from a thread a week ago, I believe in repotting section. Brief overview, dog playing in backyard, Dendros' Air bathing, then suddenly boom on ground they go. Don't know for how long, but upon inspection, the rootball was totally out of net pot on one Dendrobium, the other seemed to be just fine. I then took them into the house did emergency repot on the one and closely inspected the other. In this inspection I noticed that one the smaller canes broke but not completely it was just kind of leaning to the side so I stuck it up right, and hope for the best. The next morning I looked at this Dendrobium again, and saw that the one little cane was not too happy,droopy. Well I snipped him clean off, put on rooting compound, and wrapped him in sphagnum. I then continued to monitor him closely. I inspected the parent a little more closely and noticed two other things on this Dendrobium. He has what looks to be like seedpods and he actually seems to have other plants growing off a couple of the canes. So my questions are;

1) will the cutting from the broken cane takeoff, and what care is needed for him?

2) are these actually seedpods and how do I prepped them for propagation?

3) now seeing that I cut the cane and it seems to be doing okay, can I cut these off and make a new plant out of them, for total of two more?

Thank you for your input ahead of time. Hopefully I'll be the proud parent of three more Dendrobiums

Dendrobiums fall and go boom Part 2 Male
Default

This appears to be a Den kingianum, or something closely related.

The small cane that broke off will likely send out a new growth, which will root. Keep it in good humidity for now and water lightly.

This type of Dendrohium readily forms keikis (new plants) at the top of the canes. When they grow roots, you can break them off when roots are one inch long. Pot up in spagnum mix, and you have new plants started.

The only reliable way to propagate from seed, is to send the pod to a lab, where they offer sterile flasking service. It takes 15-24 months, and cost is typically about $150 for 5 flasks.

Whethet it is worthwhile depends on the parents used. Also, if you do not know when the pod was pollinated, it will be difficult to judge when you should cut it off (it has to be mature, but ideally not dry yet).
