Default Dendrobiums one cane each pot

I want to ask what happens with dendrobium that were cut and was potted one cane a pot, will it bloom again will they die? I saw a hobbyist who have a dendro in pots with one cane only some do not even have leaves and has new growth. She told me its her way of propagating. I was surprise since its my first time to see that. She also removes new growth i think 3 inches tall and repot. Will they grow and bloom fast? Is that really a way of propagating? Thanks

Dens usually do new basal growth, so that is why one cane is okay per pot. And that container can be really small. The other new growth you mention are keikis. Some dens do that a lot, so new babies forming..easy new ones to increase the collection.

Yes the dens will rebloom when it is matured already. Some dens go deciduous in winter, losing all its leaves, they get their winter rest, and when Spring warm-up comes, may start making new blooms first before new leaves.

As long as you do not bury the Den too deep, get that other end a bit above the media and maybe stake it for support, then it should eventually grow roots to further support it.

Some do not use pots, they just mount it, works that way too.

There is nothing wrong with a cane in a pot to propagate it at first.... But it is magnificent to see a full matured tall specimen of 24 canes or more producing flowers.

One cane divisions are relatively easy for someone growing in the Philippines, but it doesn't mean it is absolutely easy.

For someone growing in various parts of the US, it can be a frustrating experience for those in the cooler climate.

1 cane divisions are generally weaker than a 2 or 3 cane division.

For beginners who are not growing in tropical countries, I would not advise dividing down to 1 cane.

1 cane divisions runs into the problem of leaving a lot less room for error.

Also, 1 cane divisions are more than likely to throw out keikis from the nodes in between the segments of each cane. The likelihood of growing out from the base is rather small, but it can happen.

1 cane divisions need to be in consistently high humidity to do well and throw out keikis.
