Default looking for sophronitis coccinea 4n

Hi everyone. I was looking sophronitis coccinea 4n. I only found it in one place, but it was 100 dollars... Which made my checkbook scream from two rooms over . Do you have any suppliers? Also, is this a difficult plant to grow? I have heard grow it like any other cattleya...

My wife got a couple (for much less than that - about $30 US each, I think) several years ago. At least one of them was from Andy's, but I don't see it on their web page now.

We have very hot dry summers here in NW Arkansas (days over 100 F/38 C not uncommon) and it's impossible for us to keep the greenhouse as cool as we'd like. One of the two died after a year or so, but the other is still going, has flowered every year, and looks reasonably healthy, so definitely more tolerant than the 2N flavor.

I know another vendor who has some & is evaluating them before releasing for sale. Maybe this fall.

Steve

If it costs less, and you are unsure about being able to grow it, go for a "regular" coccinea (not 4N) - it's a lovely species
