Default Moving orchids around

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some advice on how bad it is to move your orchids around the house. I have a NOID miltonia that I move around a bit. For example, on days where it's warm enough, I put it out on my porch. When in the house, it gets the best light in my kitchen, but I don't like to have it in there when I cook (temperature fluctuations, the lights are on when normally it should be dark, etc.). You get the idea.

However, am I inadvertently doing it more harm than good by changing its location? Does this disorient it?

Other general info: I bought the orchid out of bloom and have had it for about two months. It had a rot problem when I got it, which seems to have stopped spreading with good air movement and a couple doses of hydrogen peroxide. It seems otherwise healthy, and has recently sprouted new roots on an immature pseudobulb and seems to be popping out what will eventually be three more pseudobulbs.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

I think you are worrying more than you need...

Forget the kitchen temperature concerns; I don't believe miltonias are affected unduly by changes in photoperiod, but also consider that the lights are probably of a wattage and distance from the plant that, while they look bright to you, are probably not really providing any significant light contribution to the plant.

My only potential concern would be to avoid changing the plant's orientation to the light source as you relocate it..

Hi Ray,

No question that I'm fretting too much over my orchids! Thanks for the advice; maybe I'll leave the poor thing alone in my kitchen.
