Default guessing this is fungus in the plant?

I have two orchids that i adopted from work awhile ago...they started developing black spots in the leaves - from reading here i am guessing they are a fungus. it has certainly gotten worse over time. the first one hasn't bloomed since i brought it home, the second one is on its third spike in the two years since i have gotten it. I tossed them outside to keep them away from my other orchids and left them there all winter, they seems to have survived just fine...

Nice blooms. Lots of flowers on those spikes!

These are prone to these infections. It is probably getting too warm or too cold. I don't know what the conditions are like when these things start to pop up, if you could provide more info, it'd probably be a lot easier to diagnose the problem.

i brought the plants home from work and had them in the house next to my terrarium for a long time. that one that is in bloom threw another spike right after i brought it home - but then over time the leaves started getting those spots - the terrarium has some t5 grow lights and these guys sat about a foot from the tank. after a while the spots were enough that i decided it was time to move them outside just in case...that spots have continued to develop - but the bulbs seem happy enough - you can't see the new bulbs here but there are some on each plant.

and one other thought - in the realm of seeds - if the orchid does have a fungus it wouldn't transfer to seeds would it?

or virus - maybe thats what i meant the first time..

I don't think the fungus will get in the seed pod.

1. What's a "long time" to you? Do keep in mind, "a long time" is a relative term. It's probably best to speak in definite terms as much as possible. What you think might be a long time, might not seem like it to me.

2. What are the temperatures indoors and outdoors? It's best to give numerical values than relative terms as well.

It's not viral.

Try growing in intermediate temperatures (55 F - 85 F). This hybrid has Odontoglossum in it. Odontoglossums can grow cool - intermediate.

If it isn't an air circulation problem, it's a temperature one. Play around with areas that might give you that sweet spot.

I'd check the roots first, and fast.

If they are ok, I'd go into the Guignardia/Phyllosticta zone. (See STAUG and Sue Bottom's pdfs)

Don't touch the leaves, don't wet them and I'd cut the offenders fast after good close up pics if possible.
