Well, if they are always green, they may have algae on them. Are they brittle when dry? Do they soften up when wet. Just trying to determine if they are alive. Usually dead is sort of obvious because they are rotten or totally shrivelled or hollow.

You can give it a name but I meant does it have a hybrid name. Many orchids have a tag with them with either their species name or if they have been crossed with other species or hybrids, they will have a hybrid name that is usually registered with the American Orchid Society and the Royal Hort. Society.

They soften when wet. And hmmm let me check the tag. I got my others at a food store and they didnt have a name on them. Im assuming this one came from one as well

Good to know. Then keep those roots. You can go on the AOS site and get Vanda culture info also. They are often grown as you have it now. Just hanging free and it gets misted every day. You can pot them but the media must be very open and fast drying. Or in a pot with very little media too.

I love growing it as it is now. It looks very exotic like. Im going to need to get a new basket for it though as the one seems really small. I think itll be really tedious work takin those roots out and placin em in another basket

As far as I know, most Vandas come this way-with a tiny basket. My one and only Vanda is like that. Many people use it to hang wires from so that they can hang the plant near the ceiling of their greenhouses.

I think you should create a new thread under the Vanda heading and post your photo and ask for some opinions from people who grow Vanda's. there are many knowledgeable ones on this forum. Some grow them in vases and do very well and there are some good threads about that on here too.

No problem and don't be afraid to ask questions. That's how we learn.

There's nothing wrong with those thin green roots. Grow them in a basket with potting media, or grow them potted, your choice, just don't cut those roots or there might be some unwanted consequences to that action.
