browning Paph blossom
My first post in a forum. I have a Paph "Dunke"? It is in bloom, the flower is turning a light yellowish brown. This started at the edge and is spreading towards the center. This started about 2 weeks after the bloom opened. I am new to orchids so this might be normal???? Any feedback is welcome.

The message on the beginner's forum said I had to post 5 messages before I can post a picture (spam prevention). This is number 2 The plant is in an East facing window upstairs, with a serious overhang to the roof. I have a Phal nearby that actually bloomed after having it for a year.

I'm a newbie and never grown Paphs, which I think are shady growers not sure though. But I will tell you that when my Red Spider Shelob bloomed I placed it where it would get the light the Dendrobiums and Catts get, and the flowers turned brown died and dropped! So maybe too much sun? Sure you'll get lot's of experienced advice here. Good luck!

It has been very sunny this week, so that might be it. How long will the blooms normally last?

2 wks sounds just about how long a Paph. delenatii var. vinicolor 'Dunkel' flower should last.
If you're willing to sacrifice the next blossom to check the roots, you can cover your bases and make sure that it's not because of a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
This species is reported to be an epiphyte. So wood chips as a potting medium is acceptable. Just make sure it doesn't stay soggy.
Right now, it likes quite a bit of moisture, but it still needs to dry a bit before watering again.
Moderate indirect light is usually good enough for this species. I wouldn't place it in an area that is too much brighter.

I think it is just time for it to fade. Phal blooms last much longer, so I believe your plant is doing okay.
You can cut that spike when it wilts totally. The plant will rest awhile, will make new roots below, new leaves on the old fan, and a new set of fan later on where the new spike will hopefully come from in the next year. It will be a bit of a wait, but it has lovely foliage to enjoy.
They are low light orchids, so your location for it is okay.
Paphs enjoy being moderately moist, low light..too much light you will easily see the leaves getting bleached.
