Default Rescue Phal growing a spike already??

I acquired this phal in early March. The roots were rotted and 2 small roots ended up staying. I have it sitting in a tupperware with some medium and mist the roots everyday. About 3 weeks ago, 2 of the bottom leaves turned yellow, I assume to use any energy it has to build roots.

A week ago I noticed 2 roots coming in:

Then I noticed this tonight, a new leaf at the top but what also looks like a spike in between the leaves. Isn't it in too much a fragile state to be putting out a spike?

I second that that is a root coming between the leaves. My Phal that I've been nursing for over 6 months now is growing one just like that as of a month ago, I too thought it was a spike. Still a great sign though!

Good job!

I find it so strange that it is growing in between the leaves but more roots the merrier! Thanks for the advice.

It is producing a couple roots and a new leaf. Once the leaf is about half grown it will likely produce a spike. It needs more roots, which it is growing, to gather enough moisture and energy to throw a spike. Probably around august/sept.

Will those yellow leaves fall off eventually or when should I trim those off?

Let them stay on the plant as they do in nature. They will fall off soon anyway.

Thanks James.

I think I will post an update in a couple of months. I'm really happy with the recovery so far.
