Well... Not so good news. I have no idea what is happening here but it seems to be aborting the spike. The first one anyways. The end of it is shrivelling up and sticky goop is oozing from it a tiny bit. Here's a pic.

As for the mother plant she seems fine, has been growing her new leaf and is also now putting out a new root. So I don't think she's in any danger.

Any ideas?

The kieki is also doing well, it is growing its leaves nicely, the two roots are both several inches long and it is putting out a third root. And the second spike growing from it is doing well also.

It seems to be aborting the first spike but it is growing another one. I don't know why it is aborting the first one. The kieki is doing ok as shown above in the pic. It's just weird that the first spike is shriveling up.

I just followed this story all the way through! Super cool! I love how mysterious they can be. My one questions was is the final bloom off of a spike from the mother plant or the first or second spike off of the keiki node?

Thanks for sharing all of this adventure!

I canot tell if it is off the mother plant or the keiki! I am assuming it is off the mother plant because I think the keiki is too small but I don't really know. They are both coming out of the same spot, thought I will note the keiki has slowed its growth since this spike has formed buds and is now flowering.

Just a quick update, a month or so ago I decided to snip off the keiki I had left on the spike and pot it up in a tiny pot. Today I was looking at mother phal with the keiki which I potted together a year or so ago and also at the second keiki I potted last month and to my pleasant surprise both mother and the new keiki have spikes!!! The keiki's spike is bigger, the mothers is just barely noticeable but I'm thrilled I now seem to have a new copy orchid which is doing well! Yay!

Pict of mother plant with one keiki in the same pot and the new little keiki in the tiny pot on the right.
