Actually I prefer it to the MS products. It will open all the MS documents that you already have and you can save your new documents in MS formats so you can share them with those who insist on buying MS products.

Why buy a limited use program? Just use what you have. It's much more flexible.
I love Open Office! Not everybody has enough reason to spend hundreds of $$$ on MS Office so OpenOffice is the perfect program

As for orchid record keeping, we've now mentioned a few ways of doing it because as in all other aspects of orchid growing...nobody does it the same as everybody else

I have a lot of thinking to do. I'll wait until the new version comes out, download a trial version and see if IT will do what I want.

I have almost 400 orchids. It would take me a long time to transfer all those records so I want to be sure it will do what I want to do.

Thanks for the feed back everyone! I have tried open office on my mac when I was in school.....it just wasn't compatible enough with MS Word for me and I didn't have the time to learn a new program while in school so I purchased the student edition back then. I think I would be less lazy in using a program if I didn't have to set it up, I think that is where my laziness falls, is actually setting the stuff up to use I shouldn't use the term laziness....just a lack of time to spend on the computer I did find the free trial version and so far I think it is interesting...I will take some time to play with it over the holiday break and see how I really feel about it! Thanks Everyone!

Just a note of from me...this thread gave me a little boot in the behind and I just finished entering a number of 'chids into Cattleya Log...only another 80 or so to go!

Did I mention so far I've only added the names of plants and no other information?
I figure once they're all in there, I can work on data entry

Yeah, right! I've used that one myself, and guess what? Never works. Hope you're better at that then I am - I don't even try to database my orchids 'cause I know I wouldn't keep it up.

LOL...two steno pad pages full so far not including the one I have pre-ordered, since I don't have to "look" for it
