Zygopetalum still in bloom but growing new bulbs?
My first zygo, got it back in March. I repotted it last month hoping that the baby roots would take hold of the new medium. It is still in flower from when I got it. I can see a lot of new root growth in the pot.
I'm also seeing two new pbulbs forming on each side of the juvenile pbulb that's in flower, which hasn't even formed it's bulb yet. I'm concerned that it won't fully form it's bulb if it's already growing new bulbs.
Did it abandoned that pbulb? Or is it just really happy?
Hopefully y'all understand what I mean, I will try to get pictures of it tomorrow if I can remember.

You have a normal, happy Zygo! That is what they do. Just keep treating it as you have been doing. Enjoy, don''t worry.

Whatever you are doing, the plant is liking it....it is giving you new growths and new roots.

let it keep on bringing forth bulbs....the more it makes the more energy its got....its not a mother that abandons the child....its a plant that produces as many babies as it can.

I'm so happy to hear that. Thanks everyone. Here's some (slightly blurry) pictures of the new growths.

It's potted in a 4 1/2 inch plastic pot. I burned some small holes into the bottom half of the pot. I potted it in small bark, loads of perlite, some clippings of sphagnum moss and a few pinches of peat moss. Then later added coconut husk chunks and moss around the base of the new bulb because the baby roots looked too dry, it was after I did that the new growths started. It sure likes to be wet! It's in an East facing window.

Yes, it does. But i wouldn't go overboard with keeping it wet either. They can still rot out.
When it gets warm during the spring and summers, they tend to get quite a bit of rain in the wild.
During the fall/winter, they will still get some rain, but it will be less than what they receive during the warm months.
In fact, depending on the Zygopetalum, some species may go through full on dormancies.

I don't go overboard, I drench it when the medium is completely dry. It takes several days for it to dry out, and that seems to be working for it. But I also mist the top layer near the growing bulbs to keep those baby roots moist.

Sounds good. As long as you know.
Looks like you'll do fine with the Zygo.
