So beautiful Debrasoon! Looks like you have just the right spot for them and an ideal climate. How lucky.

Jocierk thanks for sharing your info. Sounds like you're already ahead of the curve with your setup ;-) I think humidity is key as well as warm temps if I'm not mistaken.
I have a Princess Kaiulani that's only been growing roots and leaves over the last few years but my violacea alba on the other hand blooms every summer on the same spikes and has a sweet floral fragrance.

Ooh the alba is lovely! I want one now!! Dear Randomgemini. The Bellini is the one on the right. I have seen a Bellini Blue at the place I buy my orchids from and it's beautiful! But I always never buy it cause he wants to charge nearly double for it compared with the usual Bellini. I suspect I will succumb one day.

Obviously I am having a drink now and thinking of a champagne Bellini instead of an orchid Bellina. Rotl

As of right now I only own one (violacea var. borneo x violacea var borneo 'Pacific Isle') that I got from Hausermann's and it seems to be doing well. It has what I think is a little spike just starting to come out, which I am SUPER excited about!

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any insider suggestions or first hand experience with these type of phals. I have done a bunch of research but there just doesn't seem to be a heck of a lot of info on them and I would like to make the little guy happy.

I would also be interested in knowing about any recommended vendors for these…ya know…just for future reference.
Jocierk, Orchids Limited has a few Phal. bellina's and violacea's listed on their site. That is where I got my primary hybrid:
Phal. Samera coerulea (violacea coerulea 'Blue Jay' x bellina coerulea 'Blue Moon') a few months ago...

https://www.orchidweb.com/products/p...ulea~2823.html
Search under both headings of Phal hybrids and species and you will find some.

Mine Is still very small and I'm a newbie... I'm glad I found this post.

You could also try Big Leaf Orchids.

There is a nursery I think in the Carolina's (or somewhere down south) that specializes and grows bellina's and violacea's. Try posting under the Phal section... Someone over there is sure to know who I am thinking of.

Good Luck!

Carol

I can highly recommend Big Leaf Orchids. Peter treats his plants like his children, with great care and love. Aside from taping them up in boxes and mailing them across the country, that is...

I recommend Big Leaf too............but in this instance I would go with Hausermann's. I have seen their stock and it is impressive. Both the items in the link are bellina......
However - anyone looking to buy must do their own DD.

The Bellina I have is Phalaenopsis Bellina var. coerulea. I'm looking forward to seeing it bloom someday. I do like the regular bellina, but went with this one because it was a little different and I had an opportunity to get one for a fair price, even if it was a young plant.

Yeah, I know the Bellina is on the right. The violacea is on the left. I think I'll go order one this weekend. I need one in my life.

Orchidview is the greenhouse Carol is thinking of. I think HP and Katherine have retired. At least that is what I heard. They were the creators of the blue violacea. Both my blue violacea and my bellina came from them.

Orchidview

Big Leaf is also awesome, but Peter's plants can sometimes be pricey.

I agree, his phals are kind of pricey, but I do like his selection, he often has some really interesting looking plants. I think any of his phals would make an excellent conversation starter, so if you're looking for that kind of phal, or just want something very visually striking I'd start by looking at Big Leaf. I've heard that his shipping practices are excellent too and he's happy to answer questions before you make a purchase. So, even though his plants cost a little more, if you want something that he has, it's probably worth it to get it from him.

So much great info! I just got the 5 orchids (plus 1 thank you gift diorites) I ordered recently and then while I was out buying pots I ran into a Zygo. Advance Australia that smelled AMAZING! So all those puts me at 24 orchids total. Below is a pic of myself up not including the 7 new ones.
I know that isn't much for most of you but I think I will wait a little while to invest in anymore of the violacea or bellinas. Now I know where to look when I do get to that point. Thank you all soooo much for your advice and shared experience!
