Turned an Orchid pot into a better Orchid pot! Female
Smile Turned an Orchid pot into a better Orchid pot!

Just thought I'd share what I did for my Phal that had the springtails. It was in a 4" clear plastic pot with a nice big root system so I wanted to put it in the next size up, or something like it. Sooo, after visiting a local nursery - which only have the 4" clear pots and their recent shipment of ceramic orchid pots turned out to be oversized - I picked up what they did have, a plastic pot with a sort of "podium". This holds a 4" pot up off the bottom for air movement. but since I was potting my plant straight into the pot, I improvised (never hurts to get a little creative):

I drilled the bigger holes using a 1" bit used for drilling the hardware holes for a door. As you can see I also drilled holes in the bottom and through the "podium". This was about 3 days ago and so far 'Pink Pirate' seems to be doing alright still (although the new leaf has had some brownish discoloration on it from the beginning, I've just written this off to be part of its new development, except I've never seen other new leaves do this...?)

It looks good. Your orchid should do well in that.
