Dwarf Species

Is a dwarf orchid a fully grown orchid, or one that is just in its infancy. I know a pony is a fully animal, unlike an immature horse. Just don't know if the same is true for an orchid. Thanks...

I'm assuming "dwarf orchids" is another way of saying "miniature orchids". If so, then a "miniature orchid" is a fully grown small sized orchid.

An example would be orchids in the genus Lepanthes. Most Lepanthes are miniature sized orchids that get no bigger than 0.5" - 4" tall/long as blooming sized adults. There are a few Lepanthes species that are "full sized" orchids that grow to be 10" - 12" tall as blooming sized adults.

The definition of a miniature can differ from organization to organization. I believe that the AOS definition is 6” or less from root to leaf tip excluding the inflorescence. I have also seen definitions that include the inflorescence in the 6”. I tried ti find the AOS definition, but gave up.

Then of course there are compact orchids which are bigger than miniatures and less than full sized.
