I got my first orchid about a month ago. It was originally planted in sphagnum moss. I repotted into bark and cut away rotting roots.
It hasn't done very well since. Most of the buds blasted and the remaining blossoms fell. One of the leaves had significant damage (I think cold damage-large yellowed pitted areas with the rest of the leaf looking healthy) and all the other ones have since become droopy and limp. I inspected the roots today and they've become shriveled looking and a bit soft.
I'm thinking this plant is dead but I wanted to get all the experts' opinions before I gave up on it and went back out to the local greenhouse to try again.
I think your plant is badly dehydrated. It is very much alive.
You just have to water more often.
For now, you want to soak the plant for a few minutes to give enough water for the plant.
Bark can dry out quick and do not hold much water when new. When you water plants in bark (Especially new bark), you have to pour lots of water. Otherwise, water just runs through without leaving much for the plant to absorb.
Pictures might help to better identify the issues.

The advice I have read is to soak new bark in boiling water prior to using it. And agree with posting pictures. Nice to see what someone is talking about.
Thank you! I did soak the bark prior to repotting but I'm probably not watering often enough. I'll see if I can get around to posting some photos today.
Thanks for all the advice everyone! I've been watering more often (Every other day or so), and the plant is definitely perking back up! The leaves seem stiffer and the roots are swelling again. Thanks again. I don't know what I would do without Orchid Board.
