I don't remember when they started blooming, but I'm happy to always have something in bloom. Paph. Pinocchio and Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos'.

I just bought a mendenhall myself that is in spike with a bud very similar in size to yours! Paphs are my favorites by far but I really love the foliage and blooms on the psychos...

any tips for a new psych grower? I was advised by the nursery to avoid fertilizing at all while in spike/bloom and to keep the medium moist but not soggy, with oncidium light...

Yes, Oncidium care, it is a mule ear oncidium. I do fertilize mine right along with my other Oncidiums. Psychopsis can be in spike/bloom for years, so not to fertilize sounds a little strange to me.
