I'm a sucker for purple dots and plain white Phal.s.

People plant everything else in group planters so why not orchids?
The nice thing about having multiple orchids together is that it prevents root-rot as more roots dry the medium out faster. When they bloom together, the display is nicer. I have two cattleya siblings together in a pot and I am getting some new Pleione orchids and planning to put them all in one bulb-bowl when I pot them up for next spring. I see nothing wrong with potting up orchids together to make a nicer display.

I've got several com pots with mature NOID phals. They're not extremely important to me and I don't worry too much about diseases and the risk of losing two instead of just one plant. I haven't managed to put more than two together. I just haven't found the right pot. But maybe a swallow, large terracotta bowl with drainage would do. I'll certainly have a look for one of those that could maybe fit 3-4 plants.

My experience is that they quickly outgrow their community pot and that they do really well. The flower display is awesome, but it's a combination of two plants together as well as that they're getting large and produce multiple spikes (3-4 per plant). So far, no bad experiences with com pots for mature phals. Works great for me.
