From shoot to pseudobulb...how long?
Hi guys, I've got 2 new shoots on my oncidium catanante and 4 on my miltassia royal robe... How long does it generally take for shoots to grow into mature pseudobulbs that are ready to spike?

8 months to a year, from what I understand, depending on the species. My oncidium sweet sugar put out a shoot some time in October, it how has a fully fledged pseudobulb, but it's not spiking, yet...

My Encyclia(can't remember the rest) is still growing its pseudobulb. I bought it in August of 2013, it had a shoot and not its halfway to maturity.

Ya mine have taken several months for the pseudobulbs to reach maturity.

Oh and I have a Catt. That JUST opened is leaf after about three months.

Orchid growing is definitely a hobby that requires patience. It's so worth it when they bloom for you though! I have my very first spike on one of my mini phals. I can't wait for the blooms to open! I first noticed the spike three months ago.  |
