Most folks over water their phals thinking that they are jungle plants. Yes they get lots of water during the wet season but many also get little water during the dry season when they flower. They also do very well in sphagnum moss but not in moss that is packed densely. Loose moss watered only when nearly dry is a good growing medium. This weekend I'll post some more pics of how to pot in moss and bark mixes. Also how to repot. There's a good orchid show and sale down in San Diego this weekend. And my pockets are smoldering right now.
Seeing your setup I agree it's not light levels, just genetics. I do have one that had purple edges but they get more pronounced in high light, that's why I would say even edging can be a sign of light, but with a genetic element in there too.
I have not known Lowes to not have a brand or vendor name on an orchid. Like Gublers or Better- grow. Sometimes if you go to a vendor website, you can find the name of the plant if the tag is missing and you know what the flower looks like. It is not a fool proof method of iding noids, but it sometimes works.

I got mine off of the clearance rack. It had one tag on it, that just said hey orchids are very easy to grow! No brand though. And the scan tag at the bottom of the pot didn't even say it is a Phal.
