My dad makes bird houses and feeders from cedar. I was wondering if I could use some of the left over pieces for planting my orchids in.
Also thought I would attach some pictures of his work. They will make you laugh.
Cedar is fine for orchids, a lot of growers use cedar pieces for mounts. It takes years for cedar to rot.
Your dads birdhouses are really cute, some people are so talented!....Jean
What is the matter with you all? You didn't ask if Flower Fool's Dad sells them somewhere!
Cedar doesn't need it but when using lumber/scraps, make sure it wasn't chemically treated.
LOL! Yes, these are good enough for me to buy one or two. There is a tradition of putting faces in gardens to ward off bad spirits or unwanted guests--scarecrow? I'm wondering if the birdhouse designs would scare off potential occupants?
Thank you everyone for your comments on my dad's birdhouses. He does sell them at local craft fairs.
No the wood is not treated.
Matt, you commented on the designs scaring off potential occupants. No, the birds don't seem to notice the faces. My daughter has one and she was so excited when some birds started nesting in it.
Again, thank you for all your wonderful comments, my dad appreciated your responses.
