Can I cut a den/phal type down? Female
Default Can I cut a den/phal type down?

When I started collecting orchids I got a few dendrobium/phal types because I had one and it seemed easier to grow. Now that I've been collecting for a bit I realize that I'm more into phals. I have about three dendrobium/phal plants and they are getting really too tall for my setup. I was wondering if I can cut the canes down to be shorter? If not is there any easy way that I can pass them on to someone else without shipping them?

No, you can't cut them down.

You could advertise them on Craigslist, or ebay - or here in the classifieds here for local pick-up only. Or you could see if there's a local orchid society that might take them.

There are Den Phals which grow relatively short canes (so you can satisfy poor hubby).

Thanks for the info fair orchids. I've got a vanda now thanks to my husband and I don't think we have the right conditions for it. So he gets to pick no more orchids!
