Inspect your plants daily if you want to keep them from becoming a meal for some hungry little bugger. Here is a classic mealy bug for those of you who have never seen one of these evil dodgers. I only smooshed half of him so he would die a gruesome death. Mwaaahaaahaaaaaaaa.

I've found small caterpillars in a couple of mine recently
With caterpillars, if possible, I relocate them away from orchids.

Long ago, I knew a Paph grower, who also had several chameleons roaming free in his lean-to greenhouse. He never had a problem with unwanted 'visitors'.

I hate, HATE, HATE mealy bugs!!!

Even just pictures on the computer! Agh! Fuzzy, frilly spawns of hell!

And I've not even dealt with a major infestation, just the odd one here and there.

They get me at a visceral level!

And wouldn't you know it - checking Den buds for aphids today, what do you think I found? *sigh* Two mealies on one plant, one on another ... GAH! I get so wigged out by them, and stressed - I feel like I want to just trash everything growing outside and give up - That's after only finding a couple of them!!!

Of course, there's the issue of where to put those plants to keep them isolated, as well.

So yeah - I'm feeling stressed now
