Spike and buds but no flowers!
Default Spike and buds but no flowers!

My Beallera 'Tahoma Glacier' is in good health and has shot up a huge spike with 5 big juicy buds. However for the past 3/4 weeks nothing has happened. Is this normal?
I am worried the buds are not opening for some reason.

Hehe, thanks! So it is not a sign of the plant being unhappy? I guess I am used to Phals shooting and blooming pretty quick!

If there was a problem it would have manifested itself and not just stalled the opening of buds.

A month to a month and a half is typical for a juicy bud to develope and open. They need more light and water when buds are developing.

Well, A few weeks ago I got my reward! Hope you all like the pics. All buds are out now and it looks even more glorious, but I also think it quite beautiful as they open too.

Do orchids generally like less water when in flower? Mine seems to not be half as thirsty since the buds popped.

Very nice, but there has been a change in names and if I'm not mistaken your Beallara is now an Aliceara.

I think I'm about to become a crazy oncidium alliance lady... because that is just gorgeous and now I want one!

I don't think their water requirements change much when they're in bloom, but I do think they are not as forgiving of you forgetting to water them when they are in bloom. When mine are not in bloom, I can get another day or two on watering, by spritzing the top of the medium with water, then giving it a good soak later.

When they were in bloom though, if I forgot to water them, I lost flowers so, just stay on your regular watering schedule and you should be good to go.
