My mother in law gave me this tiny orchid. The instructions say to leave it in a sunny area, but not in direct sunlight. It says to give it one ice cube once a week. I've done this for two weeks and it looks like it's dying. Plus, the pot is so tiny, it makes it really difficult to get an ice cube in there. How can I save this mini orchid?
It looks fine to me. The leaves and little bit of roots I see all look alright although I can't tell for sure. Are they leaves firm and turgid to touch or are they rather soft? If not soft, then it is fine.
The flowers are dead probably because it reached the end of its life. Or phalaenopsis tend to easily drop flowers when moved around in the cold weather.
This is just as you suspected. For all the flowers to being dying at one time means the plant is withholding water from them to sustain itself. The just add ice method doesn't work. This orchid needs to be taken to the sink and watered. If it is in sphagnum moss water it lightly and then let it become somewhat dry before watering again. If in a bark mix, water and then let it get fairly dry before watering again. At this stage the roots may have been compromised so drowning them will not be good. More pics please. Pics of the surface of the media in the pot. The leaves. And the base where the leaves attach to the plant.
