Thoughts on these pots?

Orchitop® Carousel Pots
For a phal or cattleya? I know I am going to need to repot them at some point. Not sure when, that is another thread for another day. But what do you think of these pots? I am drawn to them for some reason, but if you don't think they will be good, I will stay away. Thanks!

Very attractive, and no doubt highly functional but the lack of a top support ring makes those verticals look awfully fragile..........

IMO, these are very expensive for what you are getting. I get the idea behind the design, but more than $20 for a single 3.75" pot? Maybe I am missing something on the pricing (is the price for one pot, or several?) Net pots from a hydroponics store, same size, are much less than $1 each.

That said, if you like the looks of them and the cost is not a concern for you, go for it. The design should promote healthy roots.

I have looked at them a couple of times, and I just love the colors, and they would be great for the Phals that seem to like to poke their roots through every single hole in the pot. However, like Orchid Whisperer said, they seem awfully expensive for a plastic pot.

I'm wondering how brittle the fingers will become after a couple of years of being exposed to UV light. Seems like they'd be a pain to clean.

It's nice to see some logical assessment and questioning going on here.

"Orchid people" are well known in the industry to be second only to pot growers in their search for "magical" things to improve their growing, whether that be fertilizers, additives, media, containers, etc.

There are a few vendors out there that take advantage of that and sell whatever they can, whether it is a good product or not. It sort of reminds me of a professional bass fisherman who started selling lures of all sorts of colors. When asked if the different colors vary in their attraction of fish, he responded "I don't know. I've never sold one to a fish!"

I just love different kinds of pots! I have artistic pots from everywhere, baskets, hollowed out logs and tree ferns, clay pots riddled with holes, pretty much everything. I don't expect a pot to last more than a few years anyway.

I have one of these and I do like it. It's great for people like me who are terrible root rotters and wish for a pot that's a bit more attractive than a typical plastic pot.

I will say that depending on your environment, you may need to add some sphag into your mix to help keep things from drying out TOO quickly. I find in my environment I have to most the roots of my phal every day or else it becomes dehydrated.

I'm sure they work fine in what comes with roots having enough air. For some reason I like more "natural" looks or classical white clay pots. I would pot all my orchids in log "pots" if they wouldn't be so expensive... Maybe one could saw/drill them as a DIY project?
