Purple Dendrobium cane

Can anyone let me know if a Dendrobium which is producing purple canes is normal, I don't know what one it is as I bought it at garage sale, it is quite large with long canes

A photo is likely to get you a quick answer. Dendrobiums are the second largest group of orchids. so, my suggestion is to post a photo.

On many, the sheathy material that envelops the canes can be purpley, and older canes that no longer have that sheathy material can get purple from high light

The sheathy material on new canes on Den-phals is, or can be striped with purple.

Sounds like a Nigrohirsutum type. If so, generally, the flowers are white with a colored , very attractive lip. The canes should loose the color (colored hair) as they mature.
