What is it with these plants, they can really grab your heart strings and not let go, am I right?

Ten dollars was completely freakin' outrageous to pay for a plant in the garbage, but...the poor thing...

I hope it knows you saved it from a cold, pitiful death!

At what law school did you learn that BS?

If it is in THEIR trash can on THEIR property, it's still theirs and they can do with it what they will.

My guess is that it should not have been thrown away at all, but placed in the "return to grower" group.

I got a good deal at lowes a day after valentines day. All their unsold non-phals for 70 dollars. 9 plants total, 3 huge full grown Cattleyas, 4 onc. Intergenerics, 2 cimbidiums. All plants in fabulous shape, ecept one lost a spike, and one cimbidium had root rot.

The manager I chatted with was amazing and nice. I did not feel robbed, I got a lot of healthy blooming plants for $7. Each.
He said he was selling them to me because they would sit and otherwise become garbage. At least with me, he had a ready and willing customer.

To me, this is "gate building," and good diplomacy. I did not act entitled to a bargain, but you could say the bounty of the universe unfolded. Niceness was in the air.

The next time, he may think of me again.

Ray, I do think you are right. The garbage can was in the building, the dumpster is on their property.

Thanks all for the replies.
My intention to write this post was only to say how the actually rep who puts the plants out was trying to educate me on how the orchid would die.

In fact when I repotted I only had to cut a small dead root , it had better roots then I expected.

To say an orchid is dead bc the spike is bent is not being educated at all.

I love all the orchid stories and the other silly garbage picking ideas .

A lady at Walmart yesterday was throwing out all the vday orchids and I asked what r they going to do with them. She said "they r going into the trash cause they r dead"

I about flipped when she said that. I told her they aren't dead but she wouldn't have any of that.
I asked her if I could buy them but she tried to direct me to the "not dead" ones up at the front.
But me story didn't end well. I still couldn't get them. And I waited 30min later then I went to the back where the dumpsters r and no orchids. So I left in unsuccessful.

I can't wait to see ur "dead" orchid.

Sorry for the rant.

Exactly my point andall the stores should just place them in a $1 clearance rack instead of throwing them out.

The top part of spike was bent . I taped it. And it has a spike next to the blooms.
Roots are very healthy and so are the leaves.
