Color definitely will vary with light and temperature.

I have seen similar incredible differences of flower color in Odontoglossum hallii. I guess it depended on light, temperature and trace elements.

Were they hybrids? With paphs, it could just be genetics.

I have lots of paphs all in the same growing area. While majority bloom the same color and shape all the time, one or two have bloomed differently each time.
At least for mine, it is definitely not due to light or temperature, but rather I believe it comes from unstable genes as a result of hybridizing.

Again give time. The color may lighten up a bit, although I find the darker yellow in the second picture prettier.

I have bloomed wild cats throughout the year, I did not see any difference.
All of them did open darker and then lightened up in a matter of week or so.

The ones I have seen color change due to light and temperature are dark magenta phals like Sogo Grape (deep and beautiful shade of magenta in the cooler months, summer blooms spotty with lots of white showing in the background overall), purple or "blue" dendrobiums (the overall color looked "dirty" and not clear under too much light and heat as compared to winter blooms) and miltoniopsis with red or pink flowers, these plants will lose either partially or completely the red or pink tone when flowered under warmer than ideal temperature.

Yes it was a noid. The first flower was a very red vini - like, totally red. Each progressive flower (3) got lighter and lighter, with more white and green showing.

Well, then, you know how it goes.

You can look at thousands of maudiae type hybrids (whether tagged or not) and many look almost identical with just subtle differences in how green or yellow green, underside color, the pattern (while this is very similar on most but some do have quite different patterns which add all the more fun of collecting! ) and of course the leaf size.

When you see them in bloom, many do look very alike, but then there are very very few outstanding flowers.

I have a few of the same grex. Some of them look almost the same both leaves and flowers just like brothers and sisters should, but some of them look quite different.

Oh, and one alba has leaf pattern resembling that of wardii but this plant has no wardii in its background ever.
Only callosum, lawrenceanum, sukhakulii and superbiens mixed in varying dosage.

I like it though!

These are interesting but given how mixed they are in their breeding, it is only natural, right?

I want to start making my own cross. haha

Here are two photos of flowers from the same plant (Rhynchorides Memoria Gustav Feddersen).
The paler flower was from a February (greenhouse) flowering,
while the darker flower was from an August (outdoors in full sun) flowering.

Flower segment shape, markings and intensity of color all vary.

Default Same plant different color flower... 10 days later.

Here is a photo of the same flower posted Feb. 13, now 10 days later. Indeed it is slowly changing color only on the large petal portion.
