Super bummed about going to my first orchid show

Now that you have had this less than enjoyable experience at a small show, I would highly encourage you make direct contact with local vendors. Build a relationship with them by phone or email and let them know you are a serious collector. Shows are for the less knowledgeable buyers for the most part in my opinion and high quality plants/species usually stay in the greenhouses for the more discerning buyers.

Only problem is that there is literally 1 vendor in my town, and I wasn't able to coordinate my schedule with his to visit his greenhouse. He works as a carpenter or something as a full time job, and the orchids he has for sale pay for his hobby. That's why I wanted to go to this orchid show, so that I could see and meet vendors from around the region. If this show in Savannah doesn't go well though it looks like I might have to drive to the growers who are farther away from me.

I live next to a BIG city. Not NYC big but a large metro area that encompasses a huge population and our society has a small show. It's sad and even though the people are so so nice and a joy to be around I can't help but be disappointed in our shows.

At least they are super friendly, so there's that. I haven't been to my local orchid meeting, but they have one this Sunday I plan on attending. Might be able to voice my concerns about the show. At least there are others who share my pain
