Default Neostylis question

Hello everyone. I just bought a neostylis lou sneary 'blue moon' and it is planted in bark and pebbles and I just noticed that it is drying out very quickly. Is it usually a very thirsty water hog plant? I am new to this genera of orchid. I am planning on repotting it in fir bark soon to check the root system and to have a fresh media.

Drying out how? Are the roots just dry, shriveled or the leaves? More info about your environment will help too.

The roots turns white after two days and the bark all the way down the bottom is pretty dry. I use the skewer method too and dig my fingers as far deep and I can't feel any moisture. the air around the house is pretty dry but i keep it in a portable greenhouse around a lot of plants and it has a clear cover. I have it under lights that is emitting quite a bit of heat but not very much. the temperature is around 75-80F during the day and dips down to 65-70F at night.

Turning white after two days is not a bad thing. I think you're fine. Watch the fullness of the roots. It's they begin to shrivel I'd increase watering but only by a little.

Water when dry, or nearly so. I think these do better not staying wet for a long time, so drying quickly isn't a bad thing, so long as you remember to water it!

I agree. These are little vandas and they like to be watered well and dry out quickly and completely. I have my Lou Sneary in red lava rock and a basket pot so I think your set up sounds great. Good luck with it!

Thanks guys. Twice a week would probably work. Can't wait for mine to bloom! It has bloomed 6 times in the past. Im excited to see how bluish it would be.
