A Few Questions About Reblooming/blooming... Male
Question A Few Questions About Reblooming/blooming...

Heyy. Its been awhile since I was on. Well I want to know a little bit more on reblooming or blooming the orchids I own. I know that some of my orchids are blooming size but not have bloomed yet and I have one I bought that bloomed but I never saw the blooms.
I have:
2 Dendrobiums. One NoId and one Den. spectabile.
1 Lc. Marcia foster Bob sanker
1 Blc. Waianae leopard 'ching-hua'
1 B. Little stars
1 Once. Heaven Scent 'sweet pea'
1 Enc. cordigera
7 NoId phalaenopsis
And
1 (I think it an I'd but I could be wrond. Its on the pot it came in there was no tag) phalaenopsis dark night. (I sawar that's what the pot says.)

The little stars is the one I bought out of bloom and wanted to know how to get it to bloom for me. And I know the Den. spectabile is not of blooming size.
And I want to know how long do I have to keep the phalaenopsis in my cooler room for them to bloom.

I have one phalaenopsis that rebloomed on an old spike and on its other spike it is growing a keiki. So do I bring it out to the warmer living room or keep it in the cooler room??

I know I'm rambling on here and I am very very sorry for that.

General questions after all that info:

How long do u keep the phalaenopsis in the cold??
How I I get the others that can bloom to bloom for me??

Thank u all and if u want me to answer anything or ask more or different questions then fill free to tell me so.

Do you know what type of Den the Noid is?

How long have you had these plants?

How much light do they get?

Most Catt alliance (and many Dens) like more light than Phals - if yours are growing well without blooming, they may need more light.

Sorry I don't know what type the noid den is. I'll diacribe it. It is a fairly large den. About a foot tall. Maybe more.
When I bought it it was in bloom. The flowers grew from the top of the larger spike. They were a green yellow about 5-7 flowers. I don't remember. The flowers were maybe 2" long.

I have owned these plants for almost a year.

They get dawn till dusk daylight. I'm afraid to put them down in the basement where my grow lights r I have for my house plants are cuz of the cooler temps down there.

Can you post a photo of the Den?

Are these orchids in windowsills? If so, what direction do the windows face? Do they get full sun? Part shade? Dappled sun?

They sit in on a shelf in front of a south facing window. The shelf sits inches away from the window pane. About 4" away. I say full sun but I do have a lot of cloudy weather where I live. PA.

I'll post a pic On Thursday. I have no time tomorrow cuz of school. Sorry.

flowering any orchid except the Phals indoors is very difficult. Phals do not need a cold room but a temperature differential of about 15 degrees from night to day in the winter shorten day lengths. A cooler window sill is usually sufficient or a hallway. Anywhere it is cooler at night.

Your window is probably about 1-2000 foot candles or less. In Florida our window glass may let in as little as half that.

Your NOid den is most likely in the Den-Phal group. They like 3-4000 foot candles of light. More exotic Dens are always named and carry a premium price. The spectabile needs to be about 7 years old and wants even higher light. I get best results when I am burning the leaves around 5-6000.

The Cattelya all like around 3500-4000.

Plan on moving your plants outdoors for the summer to get higher light levels. Also avoid winter flowering plants like the spectabile which blooms in January, which will be hard for you without a lot of supplemental lighting.

Once buds are set on any orchid they no longer need the light conditions and will continue to open the buds and flower nicely even in dark rooms.

The noid den is not a den-phal. I know that. The flowers were not of a tyipical den-phal.

If it is not a Den=Phal then the next most common group are the nobile types.

the flowers come directly from the stem not on a spike. Usually the cane is thin at the bottom and thickens at the top. They are tolerant on light levels up to 100% sun but require a cool periods 50 degree nights to flower.

These should always be sold with a name tag as the care is so different

I bloom a number of orchids on windowsills - right next to the glass. Mostly east and west facing windows getting some shade.
South facing windows get lots of light in winter, but little direct light in summer. I put high light orchids in a south facing window for winter, but they get moved either to east or west facing windows or outside in spring.

Post a photo of the Den when you can please. I agree that it is most likely a Den-phal. Could be a latouria, perhaps ...

How long have you had these orchids?

Pix might be helpful to determine if they are bloom size - or let us know where you got them . Obviously if they were blooming when you got them, they are technically bloom size, but may be very young still ...

Here is the Den in question.

Here us where the flowers came out of. There was only one spike.

When I brought it to a better lighting place to take it pic I notest two leaves on the floor. Then when I brought it out two more leaves fell off. What's going on?? I'm worried about it a lot now. It has a new cane as u can see. But the leaves r falling off the old cane. Is that normal??

The Den.'s flowers looked like this. (This is not a pic of my den.)
