Old dendrobium canes

Hello everyone, my dendrobium has few old canes that looks quiet dry and one of them is yellowish at the base.I'm planning to repot my dendrobium so the question is should I remove those older canes or let be there itself?

That cane in the center, the orange-ish area at the base - is that soft or firm feeling?

yes it's a bit soft

Well, if repotting, I might be tempted to remove that one and put some cinnamon on the cut.

Has that area gotten bigger, or remained the same for some time?

I have the same thing going on with a few of my dends. The canes are whitish, greyish and feel hard and dry. I was wondering if I should cut them or are they contributing some sort of nourishment for the plant still?

From your description, it sounds like they are probably dead...

Thanks guys! I'm going to post some pics,thing is my camera konked out so I have to fix the setting on the phone to get clear ones! But I will 'cos I need to know,I feel like cutting them off, they look so ugly just all bare!
