Hullo,
My Rlc. Kat Green Power "Gleneyries Green Giant" has developed a large black eye on it. I've just researched black eyes on cattleyas and discovered that they're the result of too much moisture or stress in the plant. This makes sense, because when I repotted it today (a few days after the black eye developed), I found toooons of rotten roots. I got it a couple weeks ago, from a greenhouse that usually has their orchids in soggy moss. It has been repotted in a bark/coco husk/perlite mix (My environment is on the dry side).
My question is, what can I do to keep the other eyes from doing this too? I've heard that if they all go black, the orchid will cease growing. I'm really nervous about it, because I had to remove a lot of dead roots and caused the plant some stress. Does anyone have any experience with this?
