Hi everyone. Just a little item of interest. I write a style blog and this friday's post is inspired by my orchid collection. For those who wonder what it might look like to dress like a Panda Phalaenopsis....

Phalaenopsis colours look great on you. I am curious how you would dress inspired by a Dracula though.

Okay, so I admit that I had to Google the Dracula orchid, and am now just a little bit obsessed with it. I think I have to get better at growing Phals before I can graduate to these though.

From a sartorial standpoint, I'm thinking a black cocktail dress and nude shoes.

Great fashion designs there. Maybe a little more purple on the P. heiroglyphica but other than that these are nice. Draculas don't seem to be that hard to grow in your area. I mean, as long as you have pure water then you're fine. You have a great advantage for growing these and their more famous cousins, the Masdevallias (you should check them out, the colors are great for outfits). Scotland has low light intensities and is damp, implying that it's humid. Also, it's really cold up there so a Dracula would be happy as long as its not kept outside.

I had read that about the cold-loving Dracula and the low light requirements. Could be that I'm actually giving myself more work than I need trying to grow more intermediate plants. This winter, we have literally not seen the sun for more than a few hours at a time. Add to that the very short days (I'm in the highlands and very far north. Sun rises at 9 ish and sets at 3:30 during the shortest days of winter) and my poor Phals were gasping for light. I even went out and bought a few LED lights to try and supplement until the days get longer and brighter again. We'll see if they do anything.

Nice idea, you can be your orchids. I am trying my hand at Masdevillia's. I think my biggest problem is going to be keeping my humidity up.

Sounds like it might be very good for you and especially since you have much better humidity.

Love the orchid inspired looks! I'm a designer and coincidentally I recently got back some images of my work that I had created hand-sculpted leather orchids on.

Funny how these flowers leak into our subconscious, isn't it? Corsetière, I love your link. Beautiful work.
