Broken Cattleya growing point/shoot
Default Broken Cattleya growing point/shoot

Hi all,

Noob here. I bought a Cattleya orchid and was advised to repot it. I broke the growing point or new shoot off. I actually did it twice in the same session with two catts. What is the impact of my mistake here?

Nic

If the plants are healthy, you'll actually most likely be rewarded with two or more growths per each one you broke off.

Well that is quite a relief. This particular plant is a C forbesii that I purchased yesterday from clown alley orchids. It was divided and repotted a year or two ago. I counted three shoots and it seems happy. So hopefully I will have 4!

Thanks for the super fast reply!
Nic

No problem and welcome to Orchidboard! As for your Cattleya, Clown Alley has some good stuff. Are you also in Texas?

Nice! Hopefully are a member of or are planning on joinging the Houston Orchid Society. They have a great organization and are large enough to have a separate group dedicated to newer growers, if that's something you are intersested in.

If you look carefully you can sometimes see the the dormant bud like structure that will grow into the next shoot.
