Do you guys buy mail order plants and if so where do you usually buy from?I'm familiar with Carter and Holmes but not too many others who aren't ridiculously expensive.

I like Oak Hill Gardens (Orchid Garden Centre). They aren't shipping right now because of the cold weather, but you could get on their e-mail list for the spring. I have also gotten nice, affordable orchids at Orchids by Hausermanns and at First Rays. Keep in mind that you have to watch the pot size. They are often inexpensive because they are just seedlings in 2 -3 inch pots. You will be waiting awhile to see blooms in this case.

Good luck!

I'll second Andy's, definitely my #1. I'd add Exotic Orchids of Maui to the list. Decent selection of species types, and if you like Catt hybrids they have some stunners.

Al's Orchid Greenhouse, Hausermann's, and Oak Hill Gardens have always sent me great plants. I just ordered from Andy's Orchid's for the first time. They have sales right now and have some things I couldn't find anywhere else. I've been meaning to order from them for a while.
I always look up the reviews before ordering (Dave's Garden) to make certain that the company has a good reputation.

I don't think Carter and Holmes is any cheaper than others. You might just be looking at seedling prices which they offer many of.

Fully mature plants are about the same anywhere except for a few places.

I buy catts locally just for convenience, but I have bought some nice healthy catts from Kawamoto and Hausermann.
