They also have a year long return policy on any orchid.

Don't want to hi-jack this thread about Catts-which I never see at our Home Depots. But they have left over Oncidiums from this time last year still for $29.00 out of bloom also. I have watched them for a year hoping they would clear them. They had tags originally but now they are gone.
But from what I read here, Lowes in the U.S. often has even bloom size Catts with tags for a good price, so would be a good place to start with a Cattleya. Often some desirable hybrids too.
Our society did get some very nice Catts from Sunset Valley Orchids this fall when he was speaking in Edmonton. Prices were only $12.00 and $15.00 per plant. Several have bloomed already.

They are always cheaper in the US.
One thing that I have done to find a particular orchid that I want is to contact your nearest orchid club to see if anyone has any for sale.

So you are in Cedar County, NE? The closest big town is Souix City, Iowa. They have a Lowes, and a Trader Joes, both sell orchids, everywhere else I have seen them.
Omaha (quite a drive) has a remarkable orchid society with a few shows per year.

No local growers?
I can't say enough about how much I learned from visiting a local greenhouse.
I've bought off ebay, big box stores, and local growers, and had the best success with locally grown orchids
good luck

Lol, never thought about sioux city... I went there when I was a little kid. It has a horrible reputation for being shady. I may have to take a special trip though, I have called the sioux falls lowes and they said they dont carry orchids
thanks for the idea!

Just trying to help by the way. I love the midwest and plan to return there in a few years or less (MO this time). I do know that you need to drive a long way to do anything.

That cattleya looks fine to me although I prefer all the pbs plump and fat if they are coming from a professional nursery. At least all the cattleyas I have bought came that way all the to the smallest pbs.
Anyhow, as someone points out, I think it would be great to drive to Omaha when there will be a show. Many vendors sell cattleyas in bloom too. Price won't be cheap though.
Another good source for cattleya online is Kawamoto. You might have seen them on ebay if you search for cattleya as they sell many many beautiful ones of various sizes.
I have bought a few in bloom or in sheath from them. No complaint so far.
If you have patience to invest a few years, then you can also buy seedlings for much cheaper.
Carter and Holmes have quite a few. They are on the east coast.
The closer one to you would be Hausermann.
Check their website often for monthly special. Sometimes they give away large specimen with multiple blooms for bargain price. They also have many beautiful cattleyas to choose from.

Tabby, are you by chance around Page? I love the canyons and mesas there. I shoot film and a large format camera. I try and go during the fall.
