This spike surprised me!
Default This spike surprised me!

I had watered two days ago,and yesterday when I went to water again, lo and behold, I see a spike on my Mtssa Red Spider!

It appears to have about six tiny developing buds.

It seemed to shoot up overnight because I watch them closely!

Is this normal for some orchids to do?

That dendrobium I posted about the last time, picture included, spiked the same way too. Seemingly overnight!

Here it is now, still in bloom

We get so used to looking at our plants, sometimes changes just pass by our eyes. The chances of it growing that spike overnight are... well, pretty darn slim to none. But don't feel bad you missed it before - enjoy that it's there now! And that you didn't accidentally break it off because you didn't know it was there :-)

My Mtssa Golden Spider "Copius" did the same thing last year, I think we get so used to seeing the plant we don't notice the spike until it get bigger, your spike was just hiding from you to give you a nice surprise. Great job.

Sometimes in Onc types the spike is really good at hiding in the leaf fold. Then one day it decides to show itself.

Thanks guys I think you're all correct! It also has many leaves so, yeah, it was hiding in there, growing.

I neglected to mention the fact that I also have eyesight difficulties! But such a nice surprise!
