Help with these two orchids
Hi,
I have been away for about twelve months and I simply placed all my orchids in various locations in my pergola. My watering system was set for 2-6 mins every 3 days depending if winter or summer.
Having returned and spending the last couple of days cutting my way throughout my pergola I have retrieved my orchids. Some seem ok others are not so happy. I put this down to overwater (my guess).
Can someone advise my best options to help save my orchids.
The first one is in a bark and coollite mix and all the roots look and feel spongy, some at the top out of the mix are a loot firmer. There are two new leaf growths which is a positive. Am I best to cut all the spongy roots off and pot in more suitable medium. What do I treat the cut roots with?
The dendrobium has about 7 new fronds and it is so root bound and has grown into the rim of the pot and it is now 4 separate plants from the main body.
There is one of the four that has new green roots starting where as the others many of which are dried out. I would be surprised if any water penetrates to the roots it is bound that tight.
I figure I need to remove this plant and re pot (not sure how best to do this) and cut all the dried out root and any that are spongy.
This plant was given to me a long time ago and to date we have never seen it flower so assume to date I have not placed in the correct location or managed its wellbeing correctly.
Any help most welcomed.
Brian
