Default Masdevallia leaf drop

The temperature range is 70-60*F (day to night). The first two Masdevallia are in small bark mix. The Mary Staal is in sphagnum moss. Relative humidity and good air movement keep these plants in good shape. I suppose you can say they are growing in window sills--they sit on a shelf in front of west facing glass brick wall on top of a bath tub. Above them is a sky light.

Masd. paiveana is a cool grower. Mine suffered pretty dramatically over the summer but perked up exponentially this fall/winter. She has 3 blooms presently and 3 or 4 new growths. My nighttime lows are 48-50 and the daytime highs 52-60. Recently the temps have stayed 48-50 day and night.

This Masd. doesn't like it warm, just keep that in mind. I didn't see anything about your environment, temperatures.

Most massies are cool growers, love high humidity, med light, and grow naturally between 5000 and as high as 10000 ft elevation. They need very good quality water to really grow well. I find them very tempermental where I live now but down in San Diego Ca they were weeds. Very easy.

Mine are indoors on a shelf 1m from the window and to the left of it as I thought they did not like much light. Maybe an actual windowsill with no direct sun might work better and also lower the temps? Outdoors is not good as we get frost in the north of England this time of year.

Daytime is around 65 night time 57. I was concerned was keeping the medium too moist so eased off, but maybe I am drying it out too much? Hard to tell. The top of the CHC was bone dry but through the holes at the bottom of the pot it still looked moist. Given it a good soak anyway.

Anyone recommend growing them in the bathroom, where the higher humidity might benefit them?

I have mine in sphagnum and a clay pot. Your temps seem ok. They do like to get some high light just not direct sunlight. I don't know if there is enough light in a bathroom for the plant. Humidity is important for Masdevallias, so you may want to see if you can give it more humidity with a cool mist humidifier maybe?

As Jeremy stated, your plant may be sulking from the repot too.
Did you rinse the CHC thoroughly? CHC contains fair amounts of salt.

I reckon I will put them on the windowsill to get as much winter light and keep them cooler.

Yes was thinking repot might have triggered things, tho it was a few weeks ago.

My CHC comes from a good source that does rinse out all salt thankfully.

I am hoping I will be able to grow these inside. Mine are also in sphagnum and clay pots. They are in a north facing window and indeed it gets cold there sometimes. Yesterday it was in the 40's right now it is 59 F. My biggest concern is humidity, I have a little bitty cool mist humidifier I got a Walgreens.

This thing is so perfect if I can keep it running. Have been having some problems with it in the last week so I have not been able to keep it going if I am not home.

Wish me luck I will be needing it.
